How Many Centimeters Are in a Meter

There are 100 centimeters in a meter. In the metric measurement system the basic unit of measurement used for length is meter. Larger units of lengths are arrived at by multiplying meter by 10, 100, 1000 and so on.

Units of length smaller than a meter are arrived at by dividing meter by 10, 100. 1000 and so on.

Measurements units bigger and smaller than a meter are named by adding prefixes the the main unit- the meter, that represent the multiplier and divider number applicable for the unit.

1 meter = 100 centimeters
1 centimetre = 10 millimetres
1 kilometer = 1000 meters = 10³ meters
1 hectometer = 100 meters = 10² meters
1 decameter = 10 meters = 101 meters
1 decimeter = 1⁄10 of a meter = 10-1 meters
1 centimeter = 1⁄100 of a meter = 10-2 meters
1 millimeter = 1⁄1000 of a meter = 10-3 meters
1 micrometer = 1⁄1,000,000 of a meter = 10-6 meters
1 nanometer = 1⁄1,000,000,000 of a meter = 10-9 meters
1 picometer = 1⁄1,000,000,000,000 of a meter = 10-12 meters
